The Orange Squad

Welcome to the website for Orion Disability and Para Swimming Squad - known as the Orange Squad to reflect our team colours.

From here you can discover more about our swimmers and our services. Feel free to contact us to find out more.

The Orion Disability and Para Swimming Squad is the new name for the West Midlands Disability Swimming Squad.

The West Midlands Disabilty Squad merged with Orion Swimming Club in January 2016. This is in line with the disability models being implemented within British Swimming. All Orange Squad members are fully inclusive members of Orion Swimming Club and will be able to access further training opportunties within the Orion timetable, at the discretion of coaches and teachers.

Some swimmers may benefit from being signposted to clubs more local to themselves to enable them to progress within both the Orange Squad and their home club.

The original WMDSS charity has now been discontinued.

About Us

Following a very successful Olympics and Paralympics, we are committed to inspiring the next generation of swimmers with disabilities to participate in sport and to help them realise their aspiration and potential.

The squad meets weekly - our calendar page has the details - to allow swimmers from across the West Midlands and surrounding areas to train together. The squad is vital to the younger talented swimmer who have an impairment, as many are the only disabled swimmers in their swimming groups and the squad sessions afford them the opportunity to train with other disabled swimmers and have an adapted session that will meet their individual needs.

The squad competes successfully at regional, national and international disability competitions with some of our members winning medals and holding British records. Some members have competed successfully at Paralympic and World Championship level and some are World Record holders in their events.

We offer a learn to swim programme again tailored to individual needs, with one to one support available.

The squad has an active management committee and coaching team, which helps to make this success possible.
